Why is my Sony WH 1000xm4 not noise cancelling enough? ›

Check the setting of the Adaptive Sound Control on the “Sony | Headphones Connect” app. When the Adaptive Sound Control is turned on, the noise canceling function may become insufficient. With the “Sony | Headphones Connect” app, check the setting of [Ambient Sound Control].

The noise cancelling function primarily works for noise in the low-frequency band (train, aeroplane, engine noise). Although noise is reduced, it is not cancelled altogether. When you use the headset in a train or a car, noise may occur depending on environmental conditions.

Noise-cancelling technology cannot completely isolate sound due to the air trapped between your audio device and eardrum. However, the air is important for you to be able to hear music. Suppose you were able to remove the trapped air, the net effect is silence, no matter what volume your music is on.

Connect the headset to a smartphone or mobile phone via Bluetooth connection beforehand. When you hear a ring tone, tap the touch sensor on the left or right unit of the headset twice (with an interval of about 0.3 seconds) and receive the call.
