Why this recipe works

There is something about the subtle sweetness of elderflower that I just can't get enough of. And I'm not really one for a super sweet co*cktail.

Elderflower adds just the perfect amount of sweet and smooth to a co*cktail without being overpowering.

So be careful, this martini is so smooth, your glass will be empty before you know it.

FAQs

Why do you shake martinis?

The answer is simple. Martinis are best ice cold and shaking them not only combines the ingredients, but chills them at the same time.

Can you make these ahead of time?

Absolutely! I love to make a batch of these co*cktails ahead of time so happy hour is a snap. I store them in a mason jar and then shake over ice before serving.

Why is my drink a different color?

The drink can be a different color depending on the brand of elderflower liqueur you use. St. Germain is a darker color than the Drillaud (which is one of our favorites!).

Varying levels of dilution will affect mouth-feel as well as the aroma of your guest's Martini. I'd typically be looking at approximately 25% of total volume added in the form of dilution of the ice whilst combining the flavours.

What is the two martini rule? ›

In certain martini venues, the “two martini rule” is observed. Once you have consumed two, you must move on to a soft drink, such as wine or a gin and tonic.

What is the formula for a martini? ›

Begin with a London dry-style gin. From there, add a little dry vermouth. The ratio is negotiable, but common formulas for a Dry Martini typically fall in the range of four-to-eight parts gin to one part vermouth. A dash of orange bitters ties the room together.

What makes a martini taste better? ›

A Perfect Martini is generally made in a 2:1 spirit-to-vermouth ratio. However, the vermouth is further split into equal parts sweet and dry vermouth. The term 'dirty' means that olive brine, usually from a jar of co*cktail olives, has been added to the drink. An olive garnish is typically assumed, too. Most bars add equal parts vermouth and brine, though you can specify 'extra dirty' or 'filthy' if you prefer more brine.

How to make a martini better? ›

Squeeze the back of a lemon peel over the glass to release the lemon oils into the martini, then rub the peel around the rim of the glass. This enhances the aroma and brings a fresh zest to it. Either drop the lemon peel in, or discard and garnish with several fresh olives.

How many shots are in one martini? ›

5 oz dry vermouth = 2 shots. The Martini is basically an extremely dry, slightly velvety glass of booze. While dry vermouth usually clocks in at only about 17 percent ABV, most of the liquid in your glass is pure gin (or vodka, if you swing that way).

How many ounces of vodka should be in a martini? ›

The Martini seems a simple concoction, traditionally being two to four ounces of gin or vodka, vermouth, with some olives thrown in, but there is a skill and science to the perfect Martini. So let's examine the way to go about making a perfect traditional Martini and then look at some variations of the form.
