The two went on a few dates before making it official; the couple married in a private wedding ceremony held on 2 August 2003, attended by only closest friends and family. David Eric Grohl was born on 14 January 1969, in Warren, Ohio, USA, of German, Slovak and Irish ancestry, the son of James Harper Grohl, a news writer, and Virginia Jean, a teacher. Dave moved to Springfield, Virginia as a child with his family, but his parents divorced when he was just seven years old, and from then on he was raised by his mother.
He became interested in music at an early age, and when 12 years old he started learning to play the guitar. He attended several high schools, including Annandale High School, but never actually matriculated.
After a while, he left the guitar and began playing drums on his own, never learning notes and only playing by ear.
While in high school, Dave was a member of several bands, and he eventually became the drummer for the legendary punk rock band Scream, following the departure of Kent Stax. He lied about his age, and left school in junior year to tour with the band, also recording two studio albums – “No More Censorship” and “Fumble”.
Scream soon disbanded, and through Buzz Osborne, Dave met Krist Novoselic and Kurt Cobain from Nirvana, whom he then joined for the recording of their second studio album, “Nevermind” (1991), which was released to both critical and commercial success.He remained with Nirvana until Cobain’s suicide in 1994, recording one more studio album, “In Utero” in 1993.
