Calling all bacon fans…today I wanted to share with you how to thaw bacon in the microwave.

Its simple. Its fast and best of all, you then have loads of bacon to eat in your favourite way.

We are British and the bacon we thaw in the microwave is always back bacon. I love back bacon because its not as fatty as streaky bacon and I cut off the visible fat for Weight Watchers meals.

You can of course thaw any bacon in the microwave and note that back bacon (because its much bigger) will take the longest and the likes of streaky bacon is so much faster.

You then have bacon to make our Ninja Foodi Bacon butties with, load into one pot dinners, make air fryer bacon aioli, do air fryer breakfast potatoes and so much more.

Can You Defrost Bacon In The Microwave?

Yes, you can. Many people are surprised when I mention microwave frozen bacon and how quickly and easily bacon defrosts using the microwave.

You can do just a small portion of frozen bacon in the microwave, or do a big batch or do it in batches.

Can You Cook Bacon From Frozen?

Yes, you sure can. And I have cooked bacon from frozen many times. But it depends on what your end goal is with the bacon, as its often easier to cook with bacon when it is already thawed.

If I just need some bacon bits for an instant pot one pot dinner, then I will often use frozen and then get out just as much as I need.

Can You Refreeze Bacon?

No, you can’t. It is not recommended to freeze bacon again after thawing. Instead, I recommend you get from the freezer the amount of bacon you need for cooking with and then leave the rest in the freezer.

Or have a meal plan in place to use up your bacon over the next couple of days.

How To Defrost Bacon Fast?

The fastest way to defrost bacon is using the microwave. You can load frozen bacon onto a small plate, and it will perfectly defrost your bacon for you, in record time.

Though when you thaw bacon in the microwave you will need some paper towels and I recommend that you don’t overfill in the microwave with frozen bacon.

How Long Is Bacon Good For After Thawing?

Once you have thawed your bacon, I recommend you load it into a Ziploc bag (unless cooking with straight away) and then place it in the fridge for up to 2 days.

Bacon – We used frozen back bacon from Aldi. But you could use any leftover bacon that you have in your freezer that you want to thaw in the microwave.

Towels – To stop a fat splatter you will need to cover your bacon with kitchen towel as it microwaves.

Then for the kitchen gadgets that we have used in this how to defrost bacon in microwave guide it has just been our Panasonic Microwave Oven. We have this one and its wonderful for many types of microwave recipes.

How To Defrost Bacon In Microwave?

Unpackage. Start by removing the packaging from your frozen bacon.
Plate. Next place a layer of kitchen towel on your plate, then add the bacon and then add extra kitchen towel over it.
Microwave. Then microwave your frozen bacon for 2 minutes on the defrost setting.
Turn. When the microwave beeps, turn over your bacon, and cook on defrost for a further 3 minutes whilst making sure the kitchen towels remain over the bacon.

And I am sure you can see now how easy it is to thaw bacon in microwave.

How Long To Defrost Bacon In Microwave?

The time to defrost bacon in the microwave may vary depending on the wattage of your microwave and the type of bacon you are thawing.

For example, we used back bacon which is bigger than streaky bacon and our bacon was fully defrosted in 5 minutes.

This was using a 800W microwave, though if you have a 1000W yours would be done in 4 minutes.

Also, if doing streaky bacon it will be done in 2 minutes because it is much smaller.

Instructions

Place a layer of kitchen towel onto a plate.
Remove your bacon from its packaging and place on the kitchen towel.
Then add another layer of kitchen towel over the frozen bacon.
Place the bacon in the microwave.
Click defrost and defrost meat and cook for 2 minutes.
When the microwave beeps, remove the top kitchen towel, turn the bacon over and then add the kitchen towel back. Cook on defrost for a further 3 minutes.

Notes

Size – Please note, we used back bacon which is much bigger than streaky and takes longer to defrost in the microwave. If doing streaky, at step #6 check if the bacon is done and remove from the microwave without the further 3 minutes.
